This week, Universal’s two Orlando parks become a whole lot easier to make the most of thanks to a new App that provides some cool mapping features, but most importantly , live wait times.  Al Callier, Universal’s VP of Innovation explains;

With the My Disney Experience App also in use, Orlando’s theme parks are definitely beginning to make good use of cell phone technology, and that is definitely a good thing for guests who want to be able to use information to decide the best attractions to visit right there in live time.

With wait times, show times, interactive maps and can also connect to the resort’s free xfinitywifi network.
While the wireless connection should offer most guests a better service than 3G, overseas visitors will be delighted that Universal are enabling them to save on the huge data roaming fees that their contacts charge while in the USA.

From the App Store:

  • Check ride, show and attraction wait times when you’re inside the parks
  • Explore the parks using detailed maps and photo navigation with the “Guide Me” feature
  • Customize your park experience using filtered lists and the map to plan your day
  • Create your own favorites list
  • Stay up-to-date with in-park notifications
  • Discover hidden surprises throughout the parks
  • Free

One cool feature is the parking reminder.
Just select the feature, take a picture of your parking lot badge  and head into the park with a permanent record of where to stagger back to after a busy day in the parks!
Sure, it’s no different to taking a snap with your regular cell camera app, but it’s nice to know that Universal have developed the app with the user in mind!

Good first effort from Universal and looking forward to seeing this app develop!  Already Universal are indicating that social networking ad ons and in app purchases for express pass options will be added.
