If you ever look above the doorway of the Mythos restaurant at Islands Of Adventure, you will see a little plaque that announces several victories for ‘Best Theme Park Restaurant’.
The much coveted award comes courtesy of Theme Park Insider‘s many thousands of readers.

This summer, TPI announced their 14th results for various categories that can be awarded world wide.
While we don’t have any specific data about the voters’ demographics, it’s still incredibly impressive that so many awards were awarded to Orlando based recipients.

Here’s a quick run down of the relevant categories;

Best Theme Park Hotel – Portofino Bay Universal Studios

Our view
Water Sunset Portofino BayThe ambiance of this charming water side resort creates one of the most peaceful and appealing places to stay.  It seems to have a perfect balance of tranquility, yet easy access to the two huge Universal parks, on foot, or by water taxi.
It’s a pleasure to travel to the gates of either theme park, whenever you stay at Portofino Bay.  The rooms are pricey, but very well presented, with choices ranging from rooms with2 beds, up to two bedroom suites and themed rooms.
Costs per night can be eye watering unless you get a special deal.
Expect to pay from $300 to $1200 per suite per night in summer!

Best Theme Park Resort Restaurant – Victoria & Albert’s

Our View
Victoria AlbertsThe Victoria & Albert’s is fairly well recognised as the leading restaurant in Orlando’s luxury hotels collection.  It’s fabulous food.  Small portions, very well prepared and the food definitely speaks for itself.  The prices are around $135 per person without wine, and $200 per person with wine pairings.
Reservations are essential and you might do well to get a table at all, but if you love fine dining and have a chunk of spare cash, it is definitely worth it.
Dinner jacket for men, dress or formal trouser ensemble for ladies.

Best Quick Service Restaurant – Leaky Cauldron at Universal Studios

Our View
Leaky Cauldron Food1Universal really struck gold with its Wizarding World investment and the Leaky Cauldron is definitely a worthy winner for quick service food.
Orlando’s theme parks are generally a bit lacking when it comes to offering anything other than burgers, chicken tenders, pizza and meatball subs from its counter service options.
The Leaky Cauldron, after just one year, has changed all of that with its collection of British Classic food.  While Britain may not be recognised as a leader cuisine, the great menu items are incredibly popular and are a mile away from the usual theme park fare!

Best Theme Park Restaurant – Monsieur Paul Epcot

Our View
monsieur-paul-00Previously, Mythos had the crown on several occasions, but a combination of ‘slipping’ on service during our own visits, plus a change at Epcot’s leading restaraunt (used to be called Bistro de Paris) could possibly have created a big upset for Mythos.
Mythos is more upscale family dining, Monsieur Paul is more of a signature restaurant for couples that also now has a few options for kids (it never used to be that way!).Add the fact that you may even catch a glimpse of the Illuminations fireworks and you have the recipe for a perfect evening!
Pricey for sure at typically $90+ per person, and not exactly fine dining, but the location and ambiance is so cool.

Best New Family Attraction – Hogwarts Express at Universal Orlando

Our View
IMG_2785This must have been a close one.  The seven dwarfs mine train is a little more than just a roller coaster, but, to be fair, the Hogwarts Express is a lot more than just a ‘theme park transport system’.
Since it opened in 2014, this rather sophisticated and ingenious ‘shuttle’ between Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios, has taken guests into another world of fantasy.
Magic like that, is really hard to beat!
