Nothing has stretched the imagination more than space flight.  The shuttle was indeed the most successful of all space programs in terms of launches and distance travelled, yet two catastrophic incidents always kept the perils of mankind’s most adventurous exploits at the forefront of our minds.

Happily, Atlantis looked after her passengers well, and finally returned to earth on the 21st of July 2011, marking an end to the shuttle program.

The Space Center’s new purpose built ‘Space Shuttle Atlantis‘ area becomes the final resting place for this iconic space craft, suspended gracefully in the new exhibit area in the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
