Great Movie Ride Updates in Spring 2015
We know that some of our loyal fans have been rumoured to dub one of Hollywood Studios’ attractions as ‘The Not So Great Movie Ride’!
Sure, we accept that it’s a straight forward, cheesy, slow moving dark ride, but it’s kind of hard to imagine being without this visually stunning feature of WDW’s 4th most popular theme park!
With the Sorcerer’s Hat coming down for good around spring time, at least we will see the beautiful Chinese Theatre that is home to this Love/Hate attraction!
Rumours have rippled continually over the last few years, that the attraction would make way for something entirely new, and back in 2013 we ourselves definitely tipped the closure of the Great Movie Ride some time in 2017.
But this week, The Great Movie Ride won a reprieve it seems, at least for a couple more years.
TCM have partnered with Disney as the attraction’s official sponsors, with some minor updates to the pre-ride and close-out footage featured in the experience.
Changes to the ride itself are unlikely when the changes occur in Spring of 2015, and we aren’t predicting much downtime thanks to just a change of video and a few new sponsor signs that will spring up around the Chinese Theatre.
The minor nature of the changes, do kind of support the theory that The Great Movie Ride could indeed come to an end in the medium term.
(If Disney was planning on the ride sticking around, they would be driving for a longer term deal with a sponsor, with a major rather than minor update.)
So for now, it’s everything as normal, and guests will still be able to enjoy ‘Hooray For Hollywood for a few years longer at least, including;
- Walk through movie memorabilia
- New Screened Movies in the pre-show by TCM
- Busby Berkeley’s Footlight Parade
- Gene Kelly Singin’ in The Rain
- Mary Poppins
- James Cagney in The Public Enemy
- Clint Eastwood – Man With No Name
- John Wayne – Ethan Edwards
- Sigourney Weaver in Alien
- Indiana Jones – Raiders of The Lost Ark
- Mickey in Fantasia
- Munchkinland in The Wizard of Oz
- New Screened Movies in the Grand Finale by TCM
Whatever your thoughts are about The Great Movie Ride, it’s one fabulous way to step back into a movie era that is now a piece of history.
Classics that are still in many guest’s hearts, but tend to appear less and less on our TVs.
The Great Movie Ride is always a good option to ‘squeeze one last stop in’ before you exit the park gates.
