Celebrating 22 Years of Food, Wine and Entertainment with Disney!
We love the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, for one we love food and two we love wine! Joking aside, The Food and Wine Festival is one of our favorite annual events. The whole atmosphere of the park, combined with the great aromas and the fabulous entertainment really make Epcot a fabulous place to visit during the months of October and November.
There are so many pavilions with so many choices of cuisine at the fesitval. However, after a recent press event we wanted to talk about the quick service options in the Italian Pavilion.
There are some great new options at the quick service Italian counters this year including beverages.
The Donkey Cart
Via Napoli’s cart is lovingly known as the Donkey Cart, because it is pulled by a donkey, unfortunately I missed the donkey out of my shot, which is rather embarrassing! The worst picture of the day award goes to Total Orlando! Anyhow missing donkey aside this small little beverage stand is decorated with some beautiful artwork and offers a nice choice of beverages.

Donkey Cart Orangecello Review
We sampled the Orangecello Cocktail which was deliciously fruity, if somewhat sweet, however I am going to lay the blame on my British tastebuds, I am often complaining about the sweetness of the offerings in Florida!
(We love the ‘Florida’ Orange twist on the classic Limoncello!)
Day one of the festival and as you can see from the picture above the Italy Kiosk is extremely popular, which isn’t surprising at all with the new offerings available.
We love the views from the scattered seating located behind the kiosk.

Food & Wine Festival Dish Review – Italy Kiosk
Firstly we were served Calamari with a Spicy Pomodoro Sauce, the Calamari was just the right crispiness and the sauce wasn’t so spicy that it took away the flavor of the Calamari. If you are a Calamari lover you won’t be disappointed.
The freshly made pasta was perfectly cooked as were the shrimp and I loved the Vodka Sauce, which is a big compliment coming form a creamy sauce fan.
Spezzatino con Polenta
I love, I mean really love Polenta and this was one of the best I have had yet, just the right consistency and flavor taken from the added parmesan. Topped with the tender perfectly cooked beef stew. I think this is going to be another firm favorite.
Cannoli al Cioccolato
These sweet chocolate cannoli are filled with ricotta and candied fruit. Again far too sweet for me, but it must definitely be a British thing, because everybody else at the event requested more. In all honesty, I am probably not the right person to review sweet treats!
Now I am the right person to review Prosecco, it is one of my favorite sparkling wines. If I had been given a choice I would have gone for the Frozen Margarita (my absolute favorite alcoholic beverage), however, I am not complaining the Prosecco was just fine.
Overall the location coupled with the great food makes this one of our top marketplace kiosks.
Via Napoli Pizza Window
The Via Napoli Pizza Window is attached to the fabulous Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria. The window offers pizza and meatballs along with beverages.
The Naples-inspired pizzas are all cooked in wood-burning ovens, to ensure authenticity, they even import the flour they use to bake the base from Southern Italy.
We love the fact that all three pizza ovens are named after Italy’s three active volcanos: Mount Etna and Stromboli which are both continuously active and Mount Vesuvius which last erupted in 1944. We are pleased to say that the pizza ovens in Via Napoli are continuously active and have already baked over one million pizzas, serving Epcot guests over the past seven years, since opening their doors in August 2010.

VIA NAPOLI – Pizza Window Review
The pizza had a very thick base with very little pomodoro sauce but lots of very fresh toppings that included, prosciutto, arugula and fresh mozzarella. I really like how they use little sauce in order for you to taste the wonderfully cooked base and the flavorsome toppings. Personally the base was a little too much dough for me, however, that is just a personal preference, it did taste delicious and I am sure it will be popular with many Epcot pizza fans. I am simply a thin dough sort of person!
Polpette E Mozzarella Parmigiana
I am not a huge fan of meatballs and only intended on trying one, however, they were so good I ate every last one. The small veal and beef meatballs were cooked perfectly and the tomato sauce was really delicious, not so rich that you couldn’t taste the meatballs. Topped with my favorite cheese, mozzarella, these were pure perfection in a tray. Eating the Polpette E Mozzarella Parmigiana at Via Napoli has really changed my view on meatballs. I would highly recommend these.
We also sampled the beer and the one of the two cocktails on offer.
It is the first year that the Italian Pavilion have offered Menabrea which is the oldest crafted beer from Italy. It comes in both Bruna and Ambreta. I sampled the Bruna and it complimented the food perfectly.
We finished off with a cocktail, the Bellini which was a great way to finish a fabulous dining experience.
My only complaint regarding the quick service offerings in the Italian Pavilion is that there really isn’t anything in the way of a creamy sauce, other than the Polenta everything else is very tomato based. I think it would be nice if next year they could add a white sauce into one of the dishes.
Italian cuisine is my favorite, so I am always on the look out for new Italian dining experiences.
As you can imagine I have sampled so much Italian cuisine, which over the years has made me quite judgemental. However, the Italian dining options here at Epcot are very exciting, I would highly recommend you stamp your passport here in Italy.
It gets a thumbs up from me!
