Disney Springs Update – Parking Lots to Close
Although some work is well under way in Downtown Disney’s conversion to Disney Springs, much of it is quietly taking place around the old Pleasure Island area near the Raglan Road Irish Pub.
Next week will see the biggest signs so far that the work is really kicking into gear, as Disney plan to board off one of DTD’s biggest parking lot areas behind the West Side.
The area affected will close the entire parking area between Entrance 4 to Entrance 3, more easily identified as the space between Planet Hollywood and Splitsville (formerly RideMakerz & Virgin Store).
The huge chunk of parking will eventually be converted to a multi level parking garage that will eventually serve the increased traffic of the completed Disney Springs development.
In the meantime, the loss of parking spaces should go unnoticed most days thanks to the fairly unused spaces up towards the Cirque du Soleil.
On peak days, such as holidays and special events, additional ‘overflow’ parking can be drafted into action by Disney as required from the Team Disney and Suntrust areas over the street. Busses will take guests form those additional parking lots over to DTD (or should we say Disney Springs yet?)
Once the new multi level parking lot is opened in late 2014, a second will be built over at the far end of parking lot 5 (Cirque du Soleil area).
What remains unclear is how the main mall area of the Disney springs Development will take shape and when. The access to this area will no doubt require further parking disruption for this much larger development.
Generally speaking, there’s going to be a ‘lot of dust to be excused’ for a while during the transformation into Disney Springs!
We will have to wait until well into 2016 before we can finally enjoy the full glory of the 1900s themed recreation of a small Florida town: Disney Springs!
