Disney Springs Parking Update – A smoother journey into Downtown Disney?

Disney Springs (Downtown Disney’s new name!) will benefit from a wide range of new investments set to free up parking chaos and gridlocked roads in a move to cater for a growing number of guest visits.

(Check out our previous blog post about Downtown Disney’s huge makeover!)

Two new $85m multi level parking garages, with a combined capacity of 6000 spaces will be a welcome sight at each end of Disney’s 120 acre shopping, entertainment and dining centre.  Designs are ongoing, but 3 storey and 4 storey units are expected.

More importantly, is that the Westbound 67 exit ramp will be altered to feed cars directly into one of the new parking garages, hopefully a big relief for motorists regularly snarled up in the Lake Buena Vista area.

We applaud all things new in Orlando, but, it is long overdue that the failing Interstate 4 was offered much needed relief.  As the essential arterial route, never designed with the large scale burden of today, it seems almost irresponsible for the tourism industry to continue to grow without addressing the fundamental problem of getting people from A to B.  At holiday times, and peak season, the I-4 can literally turn into a parking lot, capable of creating journey times of 90 minutes for a 5 mile trip.
