Avoid Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Thursday!
NOTE: Also avoid the Magic Kingdom on May 1st and 2nd to avoid the crowds caused by the 2 day Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Opening Press Event.
We never really tell you what to do when you are in Orlando, we prefer to give you all the information you need before you decide for yourselves!
This Thursday is perhaps an important exception as Hollywood Studios celebrates its 25th Anniversary since it first opened to the public as Disney MGM Studios on May 1st 1989.
If, as we suspect, the event draws in huge crowds eager to experience a bunch of special events, we are anticipating that the Hollywood Studios area of WDW is destined to get awfully busy from park opening. With a celebratory firework event scheduled at 9:30pm guests can also expect immense traffic congestion right up until Midnight as the park stays open until 11pm to help dissipate traffic.
After the overwhelming success of the Hollywood Studios Unleash the Villains event, Disney will be working extra hard to avoid the gridlock situation that held guests in their vehicles for up to 3 hours as they attempted to reach the capacity event held on Friday 13th September 2013.
Our advice however
- Avoid the park unless you are specifically in need to visit that day (it will be super busy!).
- If you must go, have fun, but set off as early as possible and either leave before the fireworks (boo!) or stay very late to avoid traffic.
- The park officially opens at 9am, but consider getting there an hour early to avoid the waits.
- We suspect that the turnstiles may open up 45 minutes early at 8:15am instead of the normal practice of 10 minutes early.
Don’t be put off heading to the other parks however, provided you bear in mind the heavier than usual traffic conditions that will probably peak between 10am an Midday and 10pm and 11pm.
