Animal Kingdom Avatar News – Camp Minnie Mickey area to make way for Avatar

The Animal Kingdom Avatar News has been very thin on the ground since the announcement of its arrival in September of 2011.
Just days after announcing the huge investment headed towards Downtown Disney’s redevelopment, the rumours were today that work on a new home for the showpiece stage production ‘Festival of the Lion King‘ has begun.

Work has started over Near the Tusker House and Dawa Bar in ‘Africa’ to create a new purpose built and probably improved theatre for Disney’s flagship theme park show.  Completion will most likely see the show move in time for the fall, enabling the considerable development of Camp Minnie Mickey to become the new home for Avatar Land.

As the most secluded area of the park, camp Minnie Mickey will allow the major development to forge ahead in relative privacy, a great asset no doubt for the Disney Marketing team.

If usual developments are anything to go by, Avatar Land will most likely not open until 2016 or beyond!  (Editor Probably in phases from 2017?)

With considerable input from the movie producer James Cameron, who, with two more sequels in the pipeline (the first due to release in Dec of 2014) will endeavour to ensure that the considerable theme park development provides an amazing experience for park guests.

With several rides, interactive areas, audio animatronics and almost certainly a 4D movie theatre, this $400m development of Pandora will provide Disney with a chance to play ‘cult catchup’ with the notoriously successful ‘Wizarding World of Harry Potter‘ over at Universal Studios.
